When You Have Scratched Glasses Lens Repair Is An Urgent Matter

By Eula Nichols

Imagine the horror when the realization strikes that there are several scratches on your new pair of prescription glasses. They are your favorites, and have hardly been used! What to do? Scratched glasses lens repair, is the first thought that enters your mind.

This wouldn't be that difficult a decision, if the glasses weren't so very expensive in the first place. It would be a disaster if you should happen to use the wrong remedy and the lenses are worse off than before. They will then have to be replaced entirely instead of just buffed to perfection.

Some people are convinced that there are certain chemicals which you can purchase easily that will effectively deal with minor scratches instantly. They have tried them, and are confident to use them again. Only deep scratches cannot be removed on your own.

The chemicals suggested by others and on the internet seem to have merit in their function, but then why not just try one out? You have been instructed to thoroughly clean the lenses with warm soapy water to dispel all debris or oils, and then to add the desired chemical whilst carefully and gently buffing the lenses in a circular motion. This however, sounds too easy and too good to be true.

There are many home remedies that everyone volunteers to you, but no one seems to be able to tell you if they will work or not. No guarantees, they say. Also, when asked whether they have tried the remedy before themselves, the general consensus is that they have not. Only that their second cousin's aunt on their Dad's side said she has tried it.

If you do first try on an older pair and it works, it might be well worth your interest to gently proceed to your new current pair. However, the cost of the chemicals you are going to use should be compared with what the professionals charge to rid the scratches from lenses. As an added thought, you might have to buy and experiment with more than one type of chemical and these costs could then add up.

These are all questions which you have to ask yourself. Do a little research on the internet and ask friends too, now you can make a more educated decision as to whether you should try rid the lenses of their scratches yourself, or whether you should let the professionals deal with it. It may be a difficult one, but then and only then can you take responsibility for your ultimate decision.

Scratched glasses lens repair is definitely a cheaper option than buying brand new lenses. Scratches can be hindering to your vision and need to be erased for the glasses to be of optimal benefit. So, no matter what you have decided to do, and how you will do it, those scratches must definitely go.
