Saving Money With The Right Roof

By Hedrick Lepsch

A light breeze feels good on your face on a warm day. Stronger breezes feel great when riding through a mountainous canyon with the windows rolled down. In soft amounts, they can be one of the most pleasant natural experiences.

Utah was named "Forbes' Best State for Business" three years in a row. The state has a pro-business attitude and welcomes the increase of economic and intelligence capital that new businesses bring to the Beehive State.

Here are a few additional reasons why Utah, specifically the greater Salt Lake City area, is in high demand for businesses. Utah touts the fifth lowest average electricity prices in the United States. These prices are almost 30 percent below the national average.

Having an efficient home requires the existence of a good roof because without such a roof you will lose energy and heat through the top of your home. Because heat rises, energy is often lost through roofs that lack insulation. Creating your home with a well insulated roof can mean the difference between energy bills that you can manage, and energy bills that go (literally) through the roof.

Next, be sure that the roof sheathing of your home is properly installed. Roof sheathing helps direct the strength of the wind over the top of the house and down onto the ground. This is a much better option than letting the structure try to withstand the full strength of the storm.

Many companies who choose to build in Utah look to hire within the state in addition to bringing their own people with them. Companies are pleased with the quality education in Utah and therefore the locals apply to join their company. Utah has a total of eighteen colleges and universities from both private and public schools; eight of these institutions are located in Salt Lake or Utah County. On the whole, Utah offers one of the most educated populations in the country.

After that, check to see if your end gables are securely fastened to the rest of the roof. Proper security entails two 2"x4"s in an "X" shape connecting perpendicular to each gable. This will help keep your roof from collapsing in the event of high winds. One of these X's should be placed against every gable. Again, if you want to be extra sure it's right, ask a friend that is a general contractor in Billings, Montana to come check it out.

Ever since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, outdoor activities within the state have increased popularity. But outdoor activities aren't limited to the winter. Hiking at Arches National Park and boating at Bear Lake or Lake Powell are becoming even more popular destinations.

These are just a few of the many reasons why Utah is a highly sought after state for business development. Be sure to keep an eye out for more businesses, and general contractors, breaking ground in the coming year.
