Illinois Public Arrest Records

By Ben Kingsley

Arrest records Illinois manages are one of the criminal files that are open to the local residents. This means that the public is given access to such files if all requirements are met. An arrest record is only made open to the public once the case has been closed.

Arrest records have information that is used in some legal matters. This information includes the personal details of the arrested individual such as the complete name and birth details. One would also know whether the person has any significant body markings like tattoo, scars or birthmarks. The document would also show the crimes and violations that were committed by the person along with the charges that were filed against him/her. If the person was convicted the sentence that was given is also indicated on the record.

Owners of companies regularly conduct a background check on their people to make sure that the one's they have are qualified and has no criminal history. Employers would want to avoid these people who have a criminal history since most of the crimes that are happening are said to have been committed by people with criminal records. The local residents of Illinois are also careful about their safety and security thus they also check on the criminal records of the people living in their neighborhood. Local authorities are also using this type of document in their investigations.

Making the arrest files open to the public can help business owners in the long run but it may pose a big problem for people who had records. Most of the people who had records have experienced negative effects in having such history. They often feel discriminated or treated unequally. A good example of this is during job application. Employers tend to put these people in the last priority for interview since they prefer those who have no criminal history at all. Some have reported to have been treated different than the rest of the people working in the company. Expunging the record is the solution to this problem but it is costly.

Access to the arrest files in Illinois is only given to the involved person. The documents are made public for investigation and employment reasons. Those who need to access the files of other individuals may need to seek approval and provide an authorization coming from the person himself. One can do a fingerprint search in order to get information on the arrest records, but a name search is preferred by employers since they do it anonymously. A name search would require some basic information in order to process the retrieval. The arrest records of Illinois are managed by the Department of Justice office. Cost can be as low as $16 and as high as $30. Requests can also be sent through mail, one just needs to make sure that the requirements are included on the letter.

With the help of the Internet, access to the criminal records is now a breeze. Residents of the state prefer to search online since it is faster and convenient. One can even do the search at midnight and the results are still displayed in just seconds. It has eliminated the need to travel and waste energy and time.
