Buy Copper Bullion For Investment

By Maryellen Lamb

Recycle is a popular words these days, but where I live this kind of recycling work is done by scrap-dealers. These are people who pick up or buy any thrown away article which has any re-sale value. The main items in this trade are those made from paper, plastic, steel, aluminum, glass and copper. Copper is the most in demand because of its high value and the scrap-dealers know that they can buy copper bullion and make money.

In fact, the value of copper is so high that any house left unattended for any length of time will have its entire electrical wiring system stripped out and stolen. Even the large-sized government-owned cables used for the country-wide transmission of high-voltage current are not immune and are stolen repeatedly, often with fatal results.

There are two reasons why many investor find copper bullion to be a good vehicle for their investment. Firstly, it has a high value, and secondly it is a metal the price of which tends to be volatile. This volatility is caused by many factors, economic growth, demand and supply, speculation, hoarding, labor unrest and so on.

However, just as in the stock-market, prices can move either way, so the wise investor must be prepared to invest for the long haul. Generally, there are sufficient and large enough fluctuations in price to offer the chance of a quick profit. The modern copper trade now makes it possible to obtain almost pure copper, 0.999%, as one ounce coins, or in one pound or kilo bars, or even flat bars or cathode ingots.

Some might say that it would be better to invest in gold bullion rather than in copper bullion, especially when the price of gold seems to be on a generally rising trend, and gold requires little storage space. This would depend on the investor's budget but as copper is a great deal cheaper than gold larger volumes can be acquired for the same money. Then having made his purchases the investor should follow the markets closely.

Various factors will influence prices, one way or the other. The investor will have to keep up with the latest data regarding lags in production, labor issues, mines being closed, strikes, and so on, all of which may force prices to a much higher level. Prices will be shown on the world's metal markets giving the investor the chance to cash in and take his profit, or to purchase more.

Nowadays copper comes in many forms, for example as coins, which makes it comparatively easy to handle. The coins come stamped in different designs such as American Eagle, Indian Head, the Statue of Liberty and many more. They can be bought in any quantity from dealers or online, they look nice when displayed and make useful gifts.

In the days when a person's money is losing its value when left sitting in a bank account, surely it would be wiser to invest it in something which over the long term will keep its value, and in the short term provide the opportunity of making significant capital gains. When your finances allow, buy copper bullion and join the ranks of those who want to preserve and increase their assets by getting out of paper money.
