How To Recognize The Symptoms of Stress

By Andrew Hoffmann

There are many different symptoms of stress, and it's not always easy to recognize them, because in many cases they overlap with other types of symptoms. If you look at yourself honestly, you can find out if stress is your main problem. It's good to be aware of some common stress symptoms.

Sometimes you when you let stress have an impact on your eating habits you could gain or lose weight. Skipping meals is unhealthy no matter what the reason since your body needs nourishment to survive. Unnatural reduction in weight can be caused from stress related eating disorders. You can gain weight by eating the wrong kinds of foods or overeating. This is often referred to as emotional eating since you are ultimately using food to feel better emotionally. This can cause obesity. By managing your stress you should be able to take steps to manage your eating habits.

Stress also makes it more difficult for you to think clearly. The more pressure you're under the more difficult it becomes to make those calm and collected decisions you're often called upon to make. Your mind is moving fast, it's true, the problem is that your mind is unable to focus and this leaves you making decisions that are made on emotional impulses and not with logic, reason, and all the facts in mind. With this in mind, it's a good idea to attempt relaxation techniques or even meditation before making big decisions. You definitely don't want to increase your level of stress as a result of bad choices you make while stressed out.

Substance abuse is also a serious stress symptom that must be given due attention lest serious consequences happen. If you get into the habit of drinking or taking a drug, including legal prescription drugs, whenever you feel stressed out, this can easily lead to a habit or a serious addiction. Many will drink alcohol and/or take drugs to escape the reality of their problems but these are temporary solutions and not the best ones, at that. If your days are punctuated by these activities of substance abuse, you are well advised to seek help immediately before your life takes a turn for the worse.

although there are many symptoms of stress there are also quite a few ways of managing stress and treating it's symptoms before it's too late. Rather than only treating the symptoms it's also important to reduce the stressors. Aspirin can only treat the headache not what's causing the headache. If you find effective ways to deal with the underlying cause, you can improve the quality of your life in many ways.
