Tips To Use An AC In A Cost Effective Manner

By Scott Rodgers

During the burning days of summer, no other appliance can give you relief as given by an air conditioner. But this comfort costs a lot to you in the form of electricity bills. So here we will discuss some efficient ways of using an AC.

Buy an AC of proper size based on size of room and number of persons using that room. Purchasing a big AC will not only demand extra money but will also add a lot in your electricity bill. Hence, be smart and purchase an AC that can save both money and electricity for you.

Choose the shaded part of your home for installing a new AC and enjoy its efficiency to the fullest. If you will place it somewhere in the sun it will eat more electricity to cool down your house.

Ensure that the room is sealed properly where AC is installed. Check whether the doors, windows fit properly and there is no visible space or leaks in the seals. Try to use reflective films on windows to screen out rays of hot sun. As a result, your AC will work efficiently.

Increasing temperature of AC by 1 degree will not bring much difference in cooling but it will bring a difference of 2% in electricity consumption. So for every 1 degree increase in temperature you can save 2% of electricity.

Regular maintenance of AC also ensures that it is working efficiently. You should check the filter every alternate month. Hold it up in a bright light, if you are not able to see through it that means its time to replace or clean the filter. Also learn from user's manual how to clean the condenser coils and fans.

At moderate temperature, ceiling fans can provide very low cost comfort. These fans improve the air circulation in your room and raise the air conditioner's thermostat. Like this, fans can make your air conditioner's job easier while saving you money. Ceiling fan uses only one-tenth of electricity in comparison to electricity consumed by a home air conditioner.

By now it must be clear that AC consumes a lot of electricity. So never use it to cool a empty room when nobody is present in that room. Whenever you go out of your home, you can set the automatic timer of AC to get a cool room. Save electricity and you will get it back.
