By Frank Palani Madan

Its the goal of every internet marketer to get to the top of the search engine results pages. When it comes to search engine optimization, the way to get to the top of the search engines is to have as many one-way links pointing to your site.

Search engine optimization is the way to prepare a site for high ranking in search engine queries. Methods of optimization vary between legitimate ways like continually improving content, ease of navigation and inbound links to tricks like keyword stuffing, link farming and other bad ideas.

Google and its PageRank system, places significant value on the number of links pointed to your site because it is considered a vote of confidence and relevance by other sites.

Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. A large enough number of votes can make you a fortune. This is because votes from relevant sites causes it to rank higher in the search engine search listings, getting more attention from searchers. A high ranking for the right keywords can meaning a vast amount of free exposure.

The best way to get a vast amount of inbound links is through article marketing.

When you share articles with other users by submitting them to article directories you retain your name and the link to your website at the bottom of the article. No matter how far your article may reach across the web, there will always be a link to your page or web site you would like to advertise.

The link going back to your web site that you put in your resource box will help with your search engine ranking for your keywords and it's a way for the reader of your articles to get to your website. They read your article, find it useful and informative so they go to your website for more information. This is highly targeted traffic.

Writing free articles for submission to article directories and other publishers is the best and fastest form of free advertising ever invented. Here are some simple guidelines to help you.

1. Write quality articles. It's important that each article that you submit is a quality article and that it is not full of grammatical errors and misspelled words. The best publishers will screen your articles to make sure the content will be useful to their readers and also to be sure the article is well-written and adheres to the publisher's guidelines. You can't be too careful when proofreading your articles. After you submit your article to a publisher, the article will go up on the article directory or on web sites, and it is not always possible to make corrections to your article after they are published.

2. Stick to the topic of your niche. Article marketing is not just about building links for just any sites. It will not do you much good to write about subjects that have nothing to do with the topic as your website. You want to be sure that the web pages linking to your web site are on the same topic as your web site. That means writing articles on the same topic as your web site. This will help Google and the other search engines index the content on your site your site in the correct category. This also helps build the keyword recognition for your site.

Writing about the subject of your site will help you be seen as an expert in your field. Keep in mind who will be reading your articles. If they think of you as an expert in your field, they will be more likely to buy from you.

3. Make your articles informative, educational and easy to read. You should not try to convince the reader to your website or buy your products. You can do that in your resource box. The article body is for educating your readers. The article is your opportunity to show how knowledgeable you are about your topic. The resource box that accompanies your article is where you can lure readers and search engines to your website.

4. Keywords. Most article directories let you put HTML in the resource box, which will allow you to hyperlink your keywords. This hyper-linking of the keywords shows search engines what keywords should be associated with your website and article.

Do not hyperlink the same words every time. Mix it up, and use related versions on your keywords. If you use the same keywords all the time, then it may appear that you're trying to manipulate Google, which Google will not like. Change things up and vary your hyper-linked keywords in your HTML resource box.

5. Check the word count on your articles. Many publishers will be using your articles in ezines, so there is a word count restriction, you want to stay around the 700-800 word range. This will appeal to the widest spectrum of publishers.

If you can write an email you can write an article. It may take some getting used to at first, but it will get easier over time. Write and submit articles consistently and you will see a considerable improvement in your search engine ranking and web site traffic.
