MLM Home Business - Is MLM the Most Reasonable Choice for You?

By Eldon Beard

If someone comes up to you and mentions "MLM" or "network marketing", what do you think of first? Depending on your past experiences or stories you've heard, you could be thinking of a very powerful home based business, or perhaps have visions of an outright scam.

Many people, when asked about MLM, immediately think of one of the industry giants - Amway. While Amway in and of itself was a good company with a pioneering opportunity, it got a bad reputation due to secretive and questionable recruiting practices that were used by some of the independent distributor organizations. This often led people to believe it was little more than a scam.

Were you ever:

- given a brief verbal presentation about a generic MLM opportunity, invited to a formal meeting, but butted heads with a brick wall when you tried to find out even the name of the company first?

- invited to a presentation, and if you pressed were told only that the company was "Jones and Associates" or something like that?

- treated like you were stupid if you dared to ask perfectly legitimate questions about the business?

- been invited to a blind opportunity meeting, attended, and found out toward the end it was the "A" opportunity again?

There is a reason that distributors have taken this approach. They were coached with a system that taught them not to reveal the name of the opportunity before the meeting, because the prospect might have some misconception that would stop them from coming.

The bad news is that all of this made this company, and MLM in general, look shady.

Let's move on and look at the home business opportunity environment of today. It never was very easy for the average person to get people to come to opportunity presentations. People now are busier than ever with their lives. The secretive approach doesn't work so well anymore, either, because people have become suspicious of it.

The good news - despite all the busyness in our society today, there are lots of people out there looking for additional income and financial security. They are no longer looking so much at newspaper and magazine opportunity ads - they are going online to find what they want. This opens a huge door of opportunity for you.

Would MLM as a business be good for you? See how you feel about the following things.

- do you like people, and enjoy working with them?

- can you see yourself enjoying talking to prospects who come to you looking for business opportunity information?

- do you have a true need to make money and strong desire to improve your situation?

- are you willing to "follow the leaders" and do what successful MLM business builders do? This means being willing to learn and do things perhaps differently than you normally would.

If your response to these questions is positive, you should take things a step farther and consider what an MLM opportunity can do for you. Read and study the fundamentals of choosing a good opportunity, and get on the path to achieving your dreams.
